The project and current progress was presented at this year's Energy & Environmental Innovation Symposium of the US DoD in Washington D.C.

Field test during the “AL622” cruise on the Baltic Sea

Kiel, October 2024

The performance of SAM was further tested and evaluated during a two-week GEOMAR cruise with the research vessel “Alkor” on the Baltic Sea.

First SAM Prototype

Kiel, April 2024

The first SAM prototype, consisting of the computing unit and a pressure hull, was assembled.



Cooperation with Ocean Floor Geophysics Inc. (Vancouver, Canada)

Kiel, February 2024

A self-compensating magnetometer from Ocean Floor Geophysics was successfully integrated into GEOMAR's AUV 'Luise'. During a day trip to the UXO dumping site near Kiel, several munition objects were magnetically detected and visually confirmed with the AUV's camera.

Arlington (VA), Dezember 2023

Test of the system at the NATO UXO testbed

La Spezia, September 2023

In collaboration with NATO's CMRE (Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation) and the SERDP/ESTCP (US DoD), a one week system test at the NATO's UXO testbed in La Spezia (Italy) was conducted.

Ahoy SAM - Project Launch

The SAM project starts, duration 24 month. The project is funded by the Helmholtz Initiative and Networking Fund.
